Susanne Pfab

Secretary General, ARD

Dr. Susanne Pfab has been Secretary General of ARD since 2015. She represents the interests of ARD in media regulatory processes and media policy committees, at national and international specialist conferences as well as through strategic public relations. Susanne Pfab supports the respective ARD chair in the management of the organization and leads the ARD General Secretariat as a permanent head office in Berlin. As Secretary General she also coordinates cross-cutting issues for the federally organized broadcaster community, including in the areas of public value and sustainability.

Prior to her position as Secretary General, Pfab, who holds a doctorate in law, was managing director for the supervisory bodies of ARD and worked as a lecturer at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. She is an honorary member of the advisory board of the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and the advisory board of the German Adult Education Association, a deputy board member of the German Television Lottery Foundation, and a supporting member of the International Press Institute.

Susanne Pfab's work is primarily aimed at sustainably strengthening and communicating the social value of public broadcasting. Particularly in light of the dynamic developments in media use, profound upheavals in social communication, and the visible influence of disinformation on the opinion-forming process, she is convinced that a modern democracy needs an independent institution like public broadcasting, which is value oriented and uses its integrative power for the public good.
