CBC/Radio-Canada is delighted to host the 2024 Public Broadcasters International (PBI) Conference in Ottawa, the nation’s capital!
Located above the Ottawa River in the Gatineau hills, Ottawa is a beautiful city in all seasons — especially in Autumn as the leaves change colours and before the snow settles in. It’s also the home of Canada’s government and Parliament, where legislative and regulatory decisions are made.
Public service media face a range of challenges today — in some cases, existential challenges. This forum brings together the most senior leaders in the field to discuss — and tackle — some of the most important issues we face.
This year, for the first time since 2016, the PBI Conference is returning to Canada.

The very first annual conference of PBI was held in Toronto in 1991 — a collaboration of TV Ontario and NHK Japan.
Since then, PBI has travelled the world — Oslo, Macao, Munich, Rio de Janeiro, Maputo, Krakow, Washington, Prague, Tokyo, Cape Town, Kuala Lumpur, Arles, Singapore, Seoul, Stockholm, Hong Kong, and so many more. And PBI has grown — more than 80 public service broadcasters, from all over the world, have become members.
